Wood Porch Swings: Frequently Asked Questions
How to hang a porch swing?
We recommend professional installation, mounting the swing from two reinforced points 60 7/8" apart. The cable and chain extensions included with the swing allow for installation in most common swing applications, including porches, ceilings, swing stands, and more.
If you need to mount the swing on a ceiling higher than 10', please contact us at info@organicswings.com for assistance.
How to paint a porch swing?
It’s generally not recommended to paint your Organic Swing. Instead, we recommend applying a stain to your porch swing. This is because walnut and cypress have natural oils that prevent paint from adhering well long-term. Plus high-quality woods take stain better, which requires less future maintenance since paint has a tendency to chip and fade faster.
However, if you do prefer to paint your porch swing, use a semi-gloss latex paint (also known as a water-based paint). This will provide ultraviolet protection while expanding and contracting with weather. Learn more about staining and painting porch swings here.Where do you place a porch swing?
Your Organic Swings porch swing should be placed at least 14 inches from the wall. This will give you plenty of space for swinging and relaxing.

Is The Organic Swing durable?
Yes! In fact, the porch swings made by Organic Swings are known for their durability. One of the best things about porch swings is they can be enjoyed any day of the year. But in order for that to be true, you need to purchase a swing that is made from long-lasting materials. So when reviewing a potential swing, always make sure to check the list of materials used. Our porch swings are made from a powder-coated steel frame (this means it won’t rust) and a corrosion-resistant wire rope for strength.
How long will my porch swing last?
If you’ve purchased a durable swing, it should last anywhere from 15 to 20 years, at minimum. Swings made of wood and metal are your best bet for ensuring longevity. Cypress and walnut wood is the most resistant to all types of weather, whereas low-grade wood such as pine, poplar, and whitewood tend to decay quickly.
